| One year later on the anniversary of the tragic events of Christmas Eve 2012 the members of the West Webster Fire Department gathered for a candlelight vigil at the scene on Lake Road. The vigil was started with the following announcement by the fire dispatcher on channel 5:
"As we gather on this first anniversary of the loss of our friends and brothers, we honor the memory of Past Chief Mike Chiapperini and Firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka for their ultimate sacrifice, and for the great friends they were to many of us. We ask them to keep an eye out for us, and to know, we will never forget them.
Rest In Peace Brothers."
After the announcement was read, Department Chaplain Hugh Knight proceeded to give a five minute sermon. Following the sermon the members were able to walk by and pay their respects to the memorial before proceeding to Station 1 for a reception. Members of the West Webster and ECD honor guards were on site for some time while the site was open to the public.
The event was attended by many agencies from around the area who responded that day. |
