On Tuesday August 18, Firefighters Nicholas Greco, Vincent Miceli, Taylor Moorhouse, Jason Sansone, Benjamin Sobtzick, Johnathan Shavritko, Thomas Woodward and Michael Lyons graduated from the Monroe County Fire Bureau Recruit Training Program. The recruit program covers NYS Firefighter 1 and NYS Basic Exterior Firefighter Operations. Firefighter 1 is designed to give new firefighters the skills they need to operate safely on the fire ground. The program includes coursework in basic firefighting skills such as the use of self-contained breathing apparatus, personal protective gear, ladder and hose line work, personal safety and numerous other fire ground activities. In addition, students received instruction for handling hazardous materials and the safety precautions required when dealing with those types of emergencies as well as basic emergency medical response. They each went through over 108 hours of training. Some have also completed EMT, which is an additional 180 hours of class and clinical time. These volunteers are all now responding to calls throughout the district. Congratulations and welcome aboard.
