On Monday, January 18th at approximately 1:25 pm, the West Webster fire department responded for the report of smoke coming from the roof of the residential structure. First in units found light smoke showing from the roof of the 2-story structure. Firefighters stretched handlines to the breezeway entrance at the front of the building, forced entry into the building and found fire immediately upon entry. The fire on the first floor was quickly knocked down. As firefighters performed a primary search of the residence they discovered the fire had extended to the 2nd floor. Again, crews made quick work of the fire. Command requested personnel to ladder the roof to perform vertical ventilation. It was discovered that what looked like a conventional shingles were in fact a metal roof system. Despite this discovery the roof was opened, which alleviated the heavy smoke condition on the 2nd floor. No occupants were home at the time, and one pet was rescued by firefighters. Engines from the Webster and Ridge-Culver fire departments responded to the scene. Fill-in’s were provided by Penfield and Ridge-Culver. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
